Weekly Roundup #1
A few things worth sharing this week
I’ve been thinking more about the deliberate practice of being a dad. There’s definitely a difference between having children and being around them, and actually being intentional about your fatherhood. “Any fool can have a child. That doesn’t make you a father. It’s the courage to raise a child that makes you a father”.
In Minnesota the weather is warming up, which means it’s almost time to start planting. In early February I started planting our vegetable garden seeds - onions, leeks, some brassicas. Things that take a little longer and need more time to grow to their full strength. In early March I planted peppers and in late March, tomatoes. If I’ve learned anything in the two years of starting seeds, it’s that some things take longer and need more care to grow to their full strength, while others require much less. As long as you give them proper warmth, water, and a good bit of attention, they all end up growing into their full potential (as much as you can influence that). Maybe it’s the same for our kids.
March Madness has been different in our house this year. With an 18 month old who loves basketball, or “BEEEBAAAALLLL”, as he calls it, the love of the game has been on full display for us. It’s fun watching him foster his love of all things, but especially one that I like as well. It’s also a good reminder that, “Your kids… They don’t remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.”
